GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR VISA APPLICANTS

Please read carefully the following requirements and guidelines on the application for Ghana Entry Visas.

  1. All visitors to Ghana must be in possession of a valid passport or legal travel documents
  2. All visitors to Ghana must be in possession of valid entry visas issued by a Ghana Diplomatic Mission or Consulate abroad or any other visa-issuing authority mandated by the Ghana Government to act on its behalf. (ECOWAS nationals and those of other countries with which the Government of Ghana has specific bilateral agreements are exempted)
  3. All visitors to Ghana are not permitted to take up employment even if there happens to be a vacancy on the Immigrant Quota of a prospective employer
  4. All visitors above the age of nine (9) months old coming into or transiting through Ghana are required to have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever at least ten (10) days from the proposed date of travel and where already vaccinated, provide evidence (the certificate);
  5. All applicants should note that they may be invited for an interview
  6. Referrals: In exceptional cases, certain applications shall be referred to Ghana for prior checks, In such cases, the applications may take much longer than the usual processing time

 

CONSULAR WORKING HOURS:

  • Submission of applications:
    MONDAYS, TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS and FRIDAYS – 30 – 12.00
  • Collection of visas:
    MONDAYS, TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS and FRIDAYS – 00 – 13.00

Please Note: Applicants who send their visa application(s) by post are advised to attach one of the following for the return of their processed document(s):

  1. a registered self-addressed envelope with the appropriate stamps (lettre recommendée);
  2. a pre-paid envelope from any recognised courier service provider.

The Embassy will NEVER send, by post, any document that does not meet the above requirement.

  1. A visa applicant should be of French/Portuguese nationality or be officially/legally resident in France or in Portugal;
  2. A visa applicant should submit
    • One (1) fully and clearly completed application form in ENGLISH and in CAPITAL LETTERS (Please note that we modify the Visa Application Forms from time to time. Always make sure to return here and download the latest version.);
    • One (1) passport-size picture taken not more than three (3) months prior to the date of application and showing full face of the applicant, without a hat, cap, and sunglasses
    • Original and photocopy of evidence of legal residence in France or Portugal if he/she is non-French or non-Portuguese national (Residence permit, EDF/telephone bill etc.);
    • a valid passport or travel document with expiry date of at least six (6) months from the date of application for the visa that has at least two (2) blank pages;
    • a coloured photocopy of the biodata page of the applicant’s passport;
    • original and a photocopy of the applicant’s International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever; a letter of consent from his/her parent(s) or legal guardian together with a coloured photocopy of the parent’s or legal guardian’s passport biodata page/photo ID (for applicants under 18 years);
    • a VERBAL NOTE from his/her Embassy/Consulate/International Organization accredited to France and Portugal or from the French/Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (for holders of Diplomatic/Service/Official passports);

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON SPECIFIC VISAS

Applicants are, in addition to the above requirements, required to submit the following where applicable:

Visitors’/Tourist Visas:

  • a letter of invitation/support from the host/hostess in Ghana indicating, among other things, the reason for the visit and where the visitor will stay while in Ghana;
  • a photocopy of the biodata page of the host’s/hostess’ passport or photocopy of his/her photo ID, if Ghanaian;
    photocopy of proof of legal residence (residence permit) of the host/hostess in Ghana in the event where he/she is a non-Ghanaian citizen;
  • an attestation from a hotel duly signed and stamped by an authorized personnel/staff confirming the applicant’s reservation if he/she will stay in a hotel (Note: unsigned email communication shall not be accepted);
  • a photocopy of applicant’s return air ticket or a print-out of applicant’s flight reservation;
  • Foreigners married to Ghanaians need to bring letters from their spouses together with a photocopy of the spouse’s valid Ghanaian passport as well as his/her French or Portuguese Residence Permit;

Business Visas:

  • a letter written in English from the applicant’s firm in France or Portugal stating among other things the reasons for the visit;
  • a letter of invitation/support from the applicant’s Business Associate(s) in Ghana indicating, among other things, the reason for the visit and where the visitor will stay while in Ghana;
  • a photocopy of the Business Associate’s passport biodata page or photocopy of his/her photo ID, if Ghanaian;
  • photocopy of proof of legal residence (residence permit) of the Business Associate in Ghana in the event where he/she is a non-Ghanaian citizen (NB: Please use the name and business address of your business associate as your reference on the application form. A hotel may be used ONLY as a second reference).;
  • an attestation from a hotel duly signed and stamped by an authorized personnel/staff confirming the applicant’s reservation if he/she will stay in a hotel (Note: unsigned email communications shall not be accepted)
  • a photocopy of applicant’s return air ticket or a print-out of applicant’s flight reservation;

Study Visas:

  • A letter of admission/acceptance from an accredited Ghanaian educational institution;
  • A letter written in English from the applicant’s institution in France/Portugal stating the reason for the applicant’s visit and his/her financial means whiles in Ghana.

Employment Visas:

  • An employment contract (Original and photocopy) and a proof of grant of Employment Quota in Ghana.

Transit Visas:

  • A visa or a connecting flight ticket to the country of destination

 

PRESS OFFICIALS/FILM CREW:
In addition to the VISA APPLICATION, all foreign correspondents (Press Officials and Journalists/film crew) wishing to visit Ghana to cover an event or shoot a documentary/film etc. are required to complete a PRESS ACCREDITATION FORM. The application for Press Accreditation which should be accompanied by three (3) passport-size photographs will take at least ten (10) working days to process.

Please Note: Visas would be issued only after the grant of the press accreditation by the relevant Ghanaian Authorities.

 

SPECIAL NOTE ON THE VALIDITY OF VISAS

  • A single-entry visa has a three (3) months validity from the date of issue
  • Three (3), six (6) and twelve (12) months’ multiple entry visas have three (3), six (6) and twelve (12) months validity, respectively, from the date of issue. However, the period of permitted stay in Ghana is determined by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the points of entry, usually sixty (60) days.
  • In all cases if the holder does not enter Ghana within the period of validity indicated, the visa becomes invalid.
  • Visitors may extend their permitted stay in Ghana by applying to the Director of the GIS for consideration.

 

Prohibited Immigrants
The under-mentioned categories of persons are prohibited immigrants:

  • A person of unsound mind
  • A person considered to be a security risk
  • A person against whom there is a deportation order in force

MODE OF PAYMENT
Payments for visa applications can be made by either one of the following:

  • Bank transfer/Bank deposit :
    • All Consular fees (visas, passports, Travel Certificates, attestations etc.) are to be paid into the following account and proof of payment sent together with the application to the Embassy.

 

Please note:

  • All persons (third parties) paying monies on behalf of an applicant should clearly indicate the full name of the applicant on the proof of payment when sending the application to the Embassy.
    • Cash payments: – at the Embassy
